FPD values the rich musical expression that comes from a single guitar, and the possibilities unique to fingerstyle playing.
For that reason, the performance format is solo fingerstyle guitar.
※Duo or ensemble performances with other instruments, performances with accompaniment, and performances involving vocals are not eligible to enter.

We value both "arranging skill" — reinterpreting an existing piece in your own way — and the "originality" a performer brings to a piece they created themselves.
Please prepare two pieces in total: one original arrangement of a cover song, and one original composition of your own.^※
Performance time should be 8 minutes or less combined for both pieces.
※Repertoire may not be changed between the qualifier and final rounds.
※Original songs must not have been commercially released or distributed through a record label, music publisher, or other business entity. This rule is intended to prevent contestants from performing commercially distributed works for the purpose of promoting their sale or distribution.

FPD values the sound that only comes from playing with the fingers.
For that reason, fingerstyle technique on an acoustic guitar is the standard, and flatpicks may not be used.
Auxiliary tools for musical expression, such as capos and slide bars, are permitted.

Live qualifiers are planned to be held at three venues across Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyushu).
At each qualifier venue, the top 2 performers will earn a place in the FPD2027 final.

After a rigorous review process, the top 10 entrants will earn a place in the FPD2027 final.
